1913
Chris Lang’s grandfather, Gideon Lang (known as "Scott"), went into partnership in 1913 with Kate Gardner to launch the real estate agency of K. Gardner and Lang which became prominent in up-market residential and commercial property in Melbourne. Gideon, and his son Deon (Chris’ late father) who followed him into the business, both served as presidents of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) and were elected Life Members. 1983
Chris Lang took control of the company. Realising that it was simply a medium-sized company (being too small to compete with the national and international consultancies) … he saw the need to transform it into a significant, competitive force. After careful consideration, Chris chose to divide the company into two separate components, where … - the residential activities of the company were to remain under the "Gardner+Lang" banner, while …
- the commercial side of the original company was restructured to trade as "Raine & Horne" in name only - with no equity or management control from Sydney.
During the ensuing nine months … Chris helped Raine & Horne Sydney extend their network to Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Tokyo. However, he maintained a controlling interest in both Raine & Horne (Vic) Pty Ltd and Gardner & Lang (Holdings) Pty Ltd. December, 1986 While carving a niche for Raine & Horne in Victoria, Chris was also able to generate some $1.5million of the company’s fee income … through transactions he personally handled, during the three years to December 1986.
January, 1987 onwards … After successfully launching Raine & Horne in Victoria, Chris sold his controlling interest in January 1987. Having identified the need for solid advice required by high net-worth clients, the commercial side of Gardner+Lang was re-established as a close-knit team.
In doing so, Chris now focuses upon serving his clients’ specific investment needs - principally in helping them acquire and market their investment properties.
